Dear Faithful Readers of the EngAGINGNH newsletter:
The board of ENH is taking the turn of the new year to step back and assess how best to pass the baton we have carried these last 14 years. Since 2006, we have accomplished a great deal in supporting all aspects of aging, using the voices and experiences of older adults as our guide. We published a monthly newsletter, to serve as a source of information, a vehicle for amplifying the voices of NH’s older population, and a cheerleader for innovations, including cross-generational living and inclusive communities built on ensuring physical and social access for everyone. We co-sponsored the Vaughn awards honoring those around the state who advanced the interests of older adults through service. We provided an older adult perspective on a wide variety of committees and initiatives. We were instrumental in advocating for the development of a State Commission on Aging, which at last is a reality. This work has been incredibly fulfilling, but it has been a great deal of work for an all-volunteer group. Our co-chairs, Carol Currier and Barbara Salvatore, have spent countless hours at meetings, in the State House, online, and at the keyboard to drive our mission to completion. In the next few weeks, our board will discuss with the new Commission on Aging and other leaders and agencies how best to share the resources and knowledge we have developed with those whose full-time work it will be to carry the torch. While we discuss and assess, publication of our newsletter will be suspended. However, we will be in touch by email and on our website to let you know how this process of transition is going. With gratitude for all your contributions over the years, The EngAGINGNH Board |
You are invited to nominate someone for the Older Adult Volunteer Award
In September 2019 the members of the State Committee on Aging transitioned to the newly formed NH Commission on Aging. Over the past few years EngAGING NH has supported the State Committee by managing the process leading to the presentation of the Joseph D. Vaughan awards that recognized older adult volunteers. EngAGING NH will continue to assist the Commission in recognizing volunteers this year.
The 2020 recognition of this volunteerism continues but with some changes; please note that the nomination form has been revised to reflect this transition. The Commission will have a broad approach to the issues affecting NH’s aging population, and authority that expands on the former Committee charge. Look to the EngAGING NH Newsletter for information and updates as the Commission settles in.
